Images from this weekend during the 37th Annual Falmouth Road Race, with historical contenders runners like Joan Benoit Samuelson and Bill Rodgers among the 8,950 runners crossed the finish line. The Ethiopians swept in both men/women's wins. Check out the website for more on this historical and inspirational race.

A little weekend at Cape Cod before heading off to ASA Nationals in MD, where the heat was unbelievable. The girls worked hard and had a lot of fun competing against some serious players. Inspiration came moment to moment in every game. To sit back and see the life lessons being put forth in the "softball" interpretation is pretty interesting. The girls have constant situational experiences on every play and in every inning, facing each other, themselves and their coaches. So proud of the girls!

warm weather

There is an island, Washburn's Island on Martha's Vineyard sound nestled in between a peninsula and Waquoit Bay. If you are a kayaker in NE you may know of the place. I have been going there in the summertime since I was about 13 years old, first with friends on their boats having fun. Days filled with water skiing, knee boarding, flirting and swimming. These days, I take my own children who play with the children of those friends of mine. It is pretty nice to see life come full circle and to sit back and watch your children enjoying the same magical place.

Today the beach is filled with boaters, unlike my days there. There are a few campsites and kayak trips can be booked through EMS or you can stop by Edward's Boat Yard on RT. 28 in Falmouth and rent your own adventure.

If you do end up on the island with friends, make sure you stay until everyone else leaves and enjoy the low sun. It is the best time to enjoy your family and take amazing photographs...just be careful of low tide!

I wonder how many times we will get to Falmouth this summer with crazy schedules? I wonder if we will go back to Brasov? I wonder how many days of sunshine and late summer evenings with friends there will be? I can't wait for the adventures, the smell of the ocean and the warm sun on my face.

Sea Glass and Nostalgia

Having fun on Etsy today, I came across items made by Jodie of Lake Erie Beach Glass. Her items tugged at my heart. I have been an avid sea glass collector since I could walk. I was trained by my mother and aunt on the long sandy shores of Nantasket Beach in Hull Massachusetts in the 1970's. Paragon Park and the days of skeeball there are long gone. I have to say, I can't go to the beach without walking the shores looking for those colorful treasures in the sand.

This summer at Doi Mai on the shores of the Black Sea, I came across a treasure trove of amazing sea glass. It was mine for the taking. Unfortunately, my eight month old was in the Baby Bjorn and I was pocketless! I stuffed as much as I could in every possible fold of clothing. It was like finding a pirate's bounty. My older children continue the tradition now, every summer on the secluded shores of Washburn Island, in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
